Resumι

In these 3200 pages Archive Editions presents a comprehensive collection of facsimile original British Government documents detailing the history of Kuwait between 1961 and 1965.

The intention of this collection was to compile all the pages relating to the history and development of Kuwait for this period, therefore the key events are covered in greater detail than in the collection for 1899–1961.

Historical Overview

These 6 volumes cover, in detail, events concerning Kuwait in the period just after independence. Kuwait gains admittance to the League of Arab States. Almost immediately Kuwait calls upon the Britain to defend it from threatened invasion by Iraq under General Kassem, and subsequently British troops are replaced by Arab League forces. In 1963 Iraq recognises Kuwait’s sovereignty and Kuwait provides financial aid in return. There is a new Constitution and a National Assembly is created. In 1965 a constitutional crisis arises and leads to the modification of  a Council of Ministers being added to the Assembly under the Heir Apparent.

Documentary Importance

Understanding the Series

These three titles in the Records of Kuwait series combine to create a large collection which offers historical evidence for the political, economic and social evolution of Kuwait. Such evidence improves our understanding of the modern political position of Kuwait. It includes, for example, examination of frontier negotiations and questions of sovereignty; constitutional, military and defence developments.
